TRIGR talks about ballistics, drills, and timers. Firearms are in the picture. They grade pass/fail with no extra credit. Read this even if you think you already know everything, especially if you think you already know everything.
Shot timers and drills are attention-hungry. Do not combine them with unsafe holster work, drawing in crowded spaces, or anything that belongs on a closed range with medical nearby. Multitasking is for email, not muzzle direction.
Four rules, still undefeated
Loaded until proven otherwise
Treat every weapon as loaded until you have personally verified otherwise. “Pretty sure” is not a verification standard.
Muzzle discipline
Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy. Screens do not count. Steel does.
Finger off
Finger off the trigger until sights are on target and you intend to shoot. Hollywood lied to you. We will not.
Target and beyond
Know your target and what is behind it. Ballistics apps help with numbers. They do not replace eyes and brain.
Timers and phones
Cold range before you fiddle with the shot timer. Dry fire and live fire are different sports; do not mix them because a phone asked for splits. TRIGR cannot see the chamber. A chamber flag is still a chamber flag. Do not use the phone as a sight, and do not mount it on the gun as an aiming device.
What stays on you
Numbers and splits can live in the phone. Judgment, backstops, and PPE do not.
What TRIGR does not do
The app does not replace a range safety officer, a coach, or local law. It does not grant permission to shoot where shooting is prohibited. It does not make unsafe behavior safer any more than a spreadsheet makes tax fraud ethical.
Law, steel, backstops
Local law and the property owner still win. The app does not grant permission to shoot, and it does not know what is behind your steel. Distances, berms, and ricochet are your problem. Boring safety is the correct personality.
Eyes and ears
Wear eye and ear protection. If you “forgot” ear pro once and now hear a permanent whistle, that was a free lesson. Take the win and protect the other ear.
